Ready to Start Shifting? Make Sure Your Detox Pathways Are Open First.

As I’ve been sharing more about using castor oil in my healing routines, I’ve had lots of people reach out with interest in incorporating it into their own lives. And one thing I’ve noticed?
A surprising number of people aren’t pooping daily.
That’s usually the first thing I ask when someone reaches out for castor oil guidance. Because before you start moving deep emotional, energetic, or physical layers, you need to know: are your detox pathways actually open?
What Are Detox Pathways?
When I talk about detox pathways, I’m referring to the organs your body uses to eliminate waste and toxins. It’s a beautiful built-in system that flows like this:
Primary Detox Organ: The liver breaks down toxins (from leftover hormones, medications, alcohol, metabolic waste, etc.) using enzymes and binds them to molecules like sulfur or glutathione.
These bound toxins are then sent:
To the kidneys, where they’re filtered and peed out
Or through liver bile to the colon, where they’re eliminated through poop
Last Line of Defense: If the kidneys or colon can’t handle the load, toxins are pushed out through the skin via sweat. This is why cystic acne or chronic rashes can often point to liver, kidney, or colon stagnation.
Why Pooping Matters
If you aren’t pooping daily, those toxins your liver worked so hard to process can’t leave the body. Instead, they recirculate, backing up the liver, and eventually, the lymphatic system, which relies on the liver to clear what it gathers.
Lymph stagnation = inflammation = stuck energy.
So before you start using castor oil to stir up old layers, you need to make sure your body has a clear exit strategy.
Gentle Detox Support: Where to Start
The goal isn’t to force detox, it’s to support your body’s natural ability to release what it’s ready to let go of.

Liver-Supporting Herbs
Dandelion root
Burdock root
Milk thistle
Artichoke leaf
Turmeric
Schisandra berry
Yellow dock root
Chicory root
Kidney-Supporting Herbs
Nettle
Horsetail
Cleavers
Corn silk
Astragalus
Dandelion leaf
Parsley leaf
Colon-Supporting Herbs
Aloe vera
Marshmallow root
Chamomile
Fennel
Slippery elm
Licorice root
Ginger root
Start with a daily cup of tea containing at least one liver-supportive herb. If the blend supports the kidneys and colon too? Even better.
*I usually recommend teas over supplements when supporting the liver. Supplements often require digestion and liver processing—whereas tea delivers herbal support gently, without adding extra work for the very organ you're trying to help.
Food-Based Detox Support
In addition to herbal teas:
Eat bitter foods like black coffee, arugula, collards, kale, chard, olives, lemon juice, turmeric, and apple cider vinegar
Add trace minerals to your water (mineral drops, a pinch of sea salt, or food-based supplements)
Include magnesium, which plays a huge role in healthy elimination
What About Castor Oil?
If you’re not pooping daily yet, castor oil can still be used, but keep it focused. Apply it directly over the liver to support its detox role without stirring up too much elsewhere.
Once daily bowel movements are happening consistently, castor oil can be used more broadly to support lymph, colon, kidneys, and deep energetic layers throughout the body.
Quick Detox Check-In
Are you pooping daily?
Are you able to sweat regularly?
Is your skin mostly clear?
If you answered yes to all three, your detox pathways are likely open, and you may be ready to start working more deeply with your lymphatic system and castor oil.
If not, start gently. Your body isn’t failing you, it’s simply asking for support.
