Just Start Somewhere...

I had a conversation today with a mom who’s just beginning her healing journey.

She’s picked up enough information to start discerning what she doesn’t want—like avoiding pharmaceuticals—but there’s often a gap between knowing what to walk away from and knowing what to walk toward.

As she shared some of her specific ailments and why she’s seeking healing, I offered a few first steps that made sense based on my own journey. These aren’t one-size-fits-all solutions. They don’t always “fix” things. But they’re steps. And steps matter.

What stuck with me after our conversation is this:

Starting is the most important part.

You don’t need all the answers right away. You don’t have to overhaul your entire life in a day.

For example, when you learn how much inflammatory junk is hidden in food, the answer isn’t necessarily to purge your pantry in a single afternoon. Maybe your first step is simply reading labels. Becoming curious.

Maybe it’s choosing one brand that nourishes instead of inflames.

When it comes to food, maybe you don’t need to restrict everything. Eat the cupcake when you want the cupcake—but maybe make it yourself, with cleaner ingredients, instead of grabbing the ultra-processed kind at the store.

When it comes to medicine, maybe you just start asking,

Is there a tea or essential oil I could try first? before immediately reaching for the Tylenol.

I used to reach for Tylenol without a second thought anytime I had a headache.

Now I pause and ask my body, “Why?”

Most of the time, the answer is hydration.

So I brew a herbal tea blend, sweeten it with honey, and let it hydrate me at a cellular level—and it works.

The journey of wellness and wholeness doesn’t happen overnight.

And the more you learn, the more overwhelming it can feel.

So here’s my message to you:

Just start with one thing.

One daily cup of tea.

One essential oil kit you reach for first.

One extra handful of fruit or nuts or greens added to your plate.

Each of those is a conversation with your body—and when your body notices, it goes:

They’re listening.

They hear me.

And when you learn to listen to your body, you’ll start to hear your intuition more clearly too.

It won’t have to scream anymore. It can whisper.

This has been the case for me in so many small ways.

I used to struggle with sugar crashes—I'd spike from meals and crash shortly after, ending up in this yo-yo cycle of needing to eat constantly.

Now, I start every meal with veggies to help slow the glucose response, and I make sure to include healthy fats like avocado, chia seeds, and hemp hearts in my snacks and meals. Those little shifts made a big difference.

I was also a big Starbucks girl. I’d go a few times a week for that dopamine hit.

Now I make my latte at home with A2 low-temp pasteurized milk, organic coffee, and homemade coffee syrup. I even add collagen protein powder to support blood sugar balance—and it tastes better.

Every conscious effort you make to nourish, to rest, to honor the body’s innate wisdom—that’s healing.

That’s embodiment.

So start with what feels easy.

Don’t force it.

Don’t shame yourself into restriction or rigidity.

We’re here to experience life. To taste it. Feel it. Live it fully.

So ask yourself:

How can I experience everything I want—without harming my body?

How can I honor what it’s asking for—and respond with love?
